I seemed to recall him being on the job during the years that I flitted in and of similar positions at the St. Petersburg Times and Tampa Tribune during the mid-1980s and many a freelance assignment before that.
Could it really be the same Steve Morse?
STEVE MORSE audio excerpt: “We have Ernie Isley, Mike Mills, George Clinton. We’re looking not just at the music but the business, the technology, the production. Lou Reed gave us great stuff about how studios have changed through the years.”
You can LISTEN to this interview with music critic STEVE MORSE, teacher of ROCK HISTORY an online course at BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC, by clicking the audio player above!
Indeed it is. Morse was on the staff at the Globe from 1975 all the way through 2005. He still freelances for the paper on occasion, as well as for other outlets.
My excuse for bringing Morse to our show today is the release of a new online course he created for the Berklee College of Music titled “Rock History.” It’s an expert’s view of the genre, packing in observations, facts and video interviews with superstars such as Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and John Lennon record producer Jack Douglas.
It’s actually one of 150 online courses and certificate programs offered by the venerable institution that you can check out at BerkleeMusic.com/RockHistory.
